Do you love turning huge amounts of raw data into machine learning products, or using statistical inference to guide strategic decisions? Do you have the technical skills to take on complex data projects, and elevate the capability of our data analysts? If yes, we’re looking for someone like you to join our rapidly growing Analytics team as a Data Scientist.
At Best Buy Canada, we believe empowered people and teams make smarter, faster, and more creative decisions. We provide a truly Agile environment, where the distance between any one person and senior leadership is microscopic. Here, you’ll work on something big, small, or super cool and before you can blink 100,000 people will see it. You’ll create fast, learn fast, and develop fast. Oh, and sometimes you’ll fail fast too. That’s ok. (Honestly.) It’s all part of the process.
As Data Scientist on the Analytics Center of Excellence, you’ll be integral to our goal of building seamless shopping experiences. In this holistic role, you’ll create revenue-driving business strategies through models or statistical insights, leverage your relationships with key stakeholders to communicate them out, and build machine learning products that solve problems at scale.
What you’ll be doing:
Developing machine learning models as part of analytics products to forecast sales demand, improve accuracy of last-mile delivery time predictions, and simulate speed and cost impact of operational changes on our delivery network
Guiding strategic decisions on future fulfillment and delivery investments by leading cross-functional projects involving data analysts and leaders from across the company
Setting analytics product roadmap in collaboration with technology product managers
Working on embedding models into production technology in partnership with our analytics/data engineers and software teams.
Building reusable data pipelines and working with diverse sets of data, including transactional, customer behavior, and text
Evolving the capability of our analytics community on data science best practices and providing guidance on solving complex problems
Championing a data-driven culture through formal training, workshops, insights meetings, and presentations to senior leadership
The experience we need…
2+ years experience with applied data science, from requirement gathering to serving models, to solve business problems and generate revenue
1+ years experience managing and prioritizing project requests, frequently communicating insights, and strategies to a diverse set of stakeholders ranging from peers to senior executives
Deep knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts, machine learning techniques and experience with their applications
Follows software development best practices and has experience integrating data science projects into production environments
Advanced knowledge of languages such as Python or R
Experience transforming large scale data sets and building pipelines using SQL, Spark, or other big data technologies
Bonus points…
1+ year(s) experience working in an Agile environment; familiarity with JIRA, Confluence
Experience working with advertising measurement methods and technologies
Familiarity with cloud platforms (MS Azure preferred) and PAAS technologies
Advanced business understanding of the supply chain, retail, and eCommerce space
Strong understanding of experimental design (e.g. multivariate testing vs AB Testing, full factorial vs fractional factorial)
Type of Environment You’re Working In…
